PlayStation 5: How to Add and Change PS5 SSD Storage

The PS5 is in the hands of some and will probably be in the hands of many when you read this how-to guide. While many things about the PS5 are familiar in the PS4 era, there are also many new features (obviously). Adding a powerful SSD is a really cool new thing, and if you're here, you're probably wondering if you can add and change your PS5's SSD storage. This is what you need to know.

How to add and edit PS5 SSD storage

Let's start by explaining some important details that, for now, are temporary. The PS5 will offer the option to add and/or change the storage for the PS5 SSD.

However, at launch, this option is not available. You're stuck with the 1TB provided by PS5 storage on launch day and won't be able to expand it under any circumstances. So, for now, you will have to get used to deleting the games that you no longer play from your hard drive if you have a lot of downloaded games.

With that said, the feature will eventually be added via a PS5 firmware update sometime in the not-too-distant future. When added, you will be able to buy and trade internal M.2 SSDs.

Sony will likely direct users towards storage options that work with the PS5, so don't try to buy anything just yet until Sony announces it. Added the function; otherwise, you could buy an unsupported SSD.

When this feature is added, we will add instructions on modifying and installing your new PS5. In the meantime, you can go ahead and transfer data from your PS4.

That's it for the moment to change and install the new PS5 SSD storage. Please check back later once Sony has updated the feature.
