Genshin Impact: Update 1.2 Leaks Show New Characters and Snowy Areas

Genshin Impact has started the closed beta of patch 1.2 in China. Test leaks reveal new playable characters and a new snowy area.

Where do the leaks come from? With the release of update 1.1, developer miHoYo began working on the upcoming Genshin Impact content. Consequently, the closed beta version of Update 1.2 started on the test servers in China.

Some of the participants in this beta have posted screenshots on Reddit and social media of what players can expect in the update. Additional images were also extracted from the beta code.

Dragonspine Mountain as a new area

Here's the new area: Along with the patch notes for update 1.1, miHoYo also posted a little roadmap of the upcoming updates. Patch 1.2. therefore, it is scheduled for December 23rd and brings with it a new area: Dragonspine Mountain.

Particularly noticeable in the images are the red crystals, strongly reminiscent of Dvalin's tears. It is also suspected that a temperature system comes into play and that you will freeze on the mountain, similar to Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Genshin Impact reminds me of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and I love it.

Albedo, Ganyu and Xiao

Players on Reddit and social media, are speculating that the three characters Albedo, Ganyu, and Xiao will soon be playable, but this has not been confirmed to be the case in Update 1.2.

This is Albedo: On the left of the image, you can see the character Albedo, who has already been mentioned several times in the dialogue and in the Genshin Impact story. He is an alchemist and mentor to the character sucrose. He also leads the Knights of Favonius research team as captain.

The "prince of chalk" Albedo is considered a very popular genius in Mondstadt and is said to be good with children. Even the brash Klee listens to his instructions. As for the game, it is a geographical character who uses a bow.

This is Ganyu: In the image on the right, you can see Ganyu, who is Liyue Qixing's ambassador and secretary. You can meet her in-game during the main story.

Ganyu is a quiet and reserved character who is loyal to the geo-god Rex Lapis. Keqing suspects that such blind devotion was sparked by a formative event in the past. Ganyu also uses a bow, but with the cryo element.

This is Xiao: This anemic character who uses a spear was already playable in one of Genshin Impact's closed beta tests. However, it was removed prior to release, and fans were hoping it would be added later.

Xiao is a mysterious young man whom you meet in the course of history. He is always polite and calm and prefers to think carefully about his actions and proceed with logic.

It is rumored that despite his young appearance, Xiao is said to be thousands of years old. Nor should one be fooled by his polite manners, for he is extremely dangerous and a powerful fighter.

Data miners have found a wide range of other characters in the Genshin Impact beta client that will soon come into play.
