Assassin's Creed Valhalla Orlog explained: how to play, rules, etc.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the latest entry in Ubisoft's popular open-world historical fiction series. This time around, players will be able to take control of a Viking named Eivor as they explore England searching for treasures and new lands to claim as their territory for their clan. Along the way, you can also take part in some side activities. Here's everything Orlog needs to know in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Orlog explained in Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Orlog is a minigame that you can play in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. It is a game of skill and luck, and your victory will depend on your ability to read your opponent and the dice you choose to play. You will usually find an Orlog opponent waiting to play with you in most major cities and settlements. The dice icon on your compass will indicate the NPC.
Head towards them and press the triangle or the Y button to start the game.
How to play Orlog
At the start of a game, you will flip a coin to determine who goes first. In each round, you will roll a series of six dice three times. Each time you move, you can decide how many dice you want to keep, but by the time you get to the third roll, all dice should be played regardless of which side they land on.
Here is a summary of the meaning of each face:
- Ax: Deals 1 ax of damage.
- Arrow: Deals 1 arrow of damage.
- Hand: draw 1 token from the opponent.
- Helmet: blocks the damage of 1 ax.
- Shield: blocks 1 arrow of damage.
On top of that, if the face of the dice has a border around it, you will also win a token.
Each player starts with 15 life points, as indicated by the blue stones on the side of the table. Your goal is to deal a total of 15 damage to your opponent to win.
Once both players have completed their three throws, the resolution phase begins. This is simply the phase where dice rolls and actions are calculated, and the game will automatically deduct VPs where appropriate. So, for example, if you played two axes and your opponent doesn't have a helmet, you will deal two damage to him. This is also where you will earn tokens through hand tosses or tokens.
After the resolution phase, you will move on to the favor of God phase. This phase only starts when you have enough tokens, and it's basically like a more powerful move that you can use in Orlog to deal a ton of damage or restore health.
At the beginning of the game, you will have access to Thor's Strike Favor. Here is a quick summary of what it does:
- 4 Tokens: Deals 2 damage.
- 8 Tokens: Deals 5 damage.
- 12 Tokens: Deals 8 damage.
As you can see, tokens are significant in Orlog too, and saving them could give you a huge advantage in a match. That said, you also need to be careful that your opponents can steal your tiles during the resolve phase, so it doesn't always make sense to stack them all.
